GAUGE: 21 sts = 4"; 44 rows = 4" in pat. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge.

RIGHT FRONT: Work same as Left Front, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES: Cast on 27 (29, 31, 31, 33, 33) sts. Marking first row as the wrong side, Knit every row, shaping sides by inc 1 st at each end of 6th row, then every 6 (8, 10, 10, 10, 10)th row until there are 39 (41, 43, 45, 47, 49) sts. Work even until 4 3/4 (5 1/2, 6 1/2, 7, 7 3/4, 8 1/4)" from beg, end wrong side row.

Shape Cap: Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of next row, then every 4th row until 27 (29, 29, 29, 33, 35) sts rem, then every right side row until 9 sts rem. K 1 row. Bind off.

FINISHING-Neckband: Sew shoulder seams. With right side facing, pick up and K14 (14, 14, 16, 16, 16) sts up right neck edge to seam, K19 (21, 21, 23, 23, 23) sts from back holder, pick up and K14 (14, 14, 16, 16, 16) sts down left neck edge – 47 (49, 49, 55, 55, 55) sts. Knit 7 rows. Bind off loosely.

Button Band (Left Front for Girls/Right Front for Boys): With right side facing, pick up and K40 (48, 58, 58, 68, 68) sts evenly across front edge including neckband. Knit 7 rows. Bind off loosely.

Buttonhole Band (Right Front for Girls/Left Front for Boys): With right side facing, pick up and K40 (48, 58, 58, 68, 68) sts evenly across front edge including neckband. Knit 2 rows.
Buttonhole Row: K3, bind off next 2 sts, [K6 (8, 8, 8, 10, 8) including st on needle after bind-off, bind off next 2 sts] 4 (4, 5, 5, 5, 6) times, K to end.
Next Row: [K to bind-off, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn] 5 (5, 6, 6, 6, 7) times, K to end.
Knit 3 more rows. Bind off loosely.

Sew side and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. Sew buttons to button band to correspond to buttonholes.
