NOTE: Cardigan is worked in one piece beginning at
Left Sleeve Cuff. Change to circular knitting needle as
necessary.
LEFT SLEEVE: Cast on 27 (32, 32) sts. Knit 3 rows
noting that first row is the wrong side. Work in pat as
follows:
Row 1 (Right Side): Knit. Row 2: K2, * P3, K2; rep from * across.
Rows 1 and 2 form pat. Work 2 more rows even in pat,
then shape side by inc 1 st at each end of next row,
then every 6th row until there are 47 (52, 52) sts,
working added sts into pat. Work 5 rows even, end
wrong side row. Sleeve should measure approximately
17" long.
BACK and LEFT FRONT- Row 1 (Right Side):
Cast on 36 (37, 41) sts, Knit to end. Row 2: Cast on 36 (37, 41) sts, K3 (4, 3), * P3, K2; rep
from * to last 1 (2, 1) sts; K1 (2, 1) – 119 (126, 134) sts. Row 3: Knit Row 4: K3 (4, 3), * P3, K2; rep from * to last 1 (2, 1)
sts; K1 (2, 1).
Rows 3 and 4 form pat for Back and Left Front. Work
even in pat for 22 (26, 28) more rows.
Divide for Neck: K56 (59, 63) for Back and put on a
holder, bind off next 11 sts, K to end – 52 (56, 60) sts
for Left Front. Work 21 (23, 27) more rows even in pat,
end wrong side row. Bind off loosely.
With wrong side facing, join yarn to 56 (59, 63) sts
for Back. Work 21 (23, 27) rows even in pat, end
wrong side row. Put sts on a holder.
RIGHT FRONT: Cast on 52 (56, 60) sts. Row 1 (Right Side): Knit. Row 2: K3 (4, 3), * P3, K2; rep from * to last 4 (2, 2)
sts; P3 (2, 2), K1 (0, 0).
Rows 1 and 2 form pat for Right Front. Work 2 rows
even in pat. Row 5-Buttonhole Row: K4, bind off 2 sts, K to
end. Row 6:Work to bind-off, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn,
work to end.
Work even in pat for 14 (18, 20) more rows. Rep Rows
5 and 6 once more. Work 4 rows even in pat.
Join Right Front and Back: With right side facing,
K across Back sts from holder, turn, cast on 11 sts,
turn, K across Right Front sts – 119 (134, 134) sts. Next Row: K3 (4, 3), * P3, K2; rep from * to last 1 (2,
1) sts; K1 (2, 1). Work 20 (22, 26) more rows even in
pat.
Shape Sides and RIGHT SLEEVE: Bind off 36 (37,
41) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 47 (52, 52) sts. Work 6
rows even in pat. Shape sides by dec 1 st at each end
of next row, then every 6th row until 27 (32, 32) sts
remain. Work 3 rows even. Knit 3 rows. Bind off.
FINISHING: Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew buttons
to Left Front to correspond with buttonholes.
