GAUGE: 20 sts = 4"; 26 rows = 4" in pattern with larger needles. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the
gauge.
BAG FRONT & BACK (Alike): With larger needles and CA, cast on 55 sts. Row 1 (Right Side): Knit.
Row 2: P1, * K1, P1; rep from * across.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for pattern until 6 3/4" from beginning, end by working Row 2 AND decrease 6 sts evenly spaced across last row – 49 sts.
Change to smaller needles and Knit 5 rows.
Divide for Handle: K17, bind off 15 sts, K to end.
Next Row: K 17, turn, cast on 15 sts, turn, K to end – 49 sts.
Knit 3 rows even. Bind off in K.
FLOWERS (Make 3)
With larger needles and CB, cast on 55 sts. Rows 1, 3, and 5 (Right Side): Knit.
Rows 2, 4, and 6: Purl.
Row 7: * K5, twist all the sts on the left needle toward you in a complete circle around the needle so that the fabric between the needles becomes twisted; rep from * to last 5 sts; K5. The twisting will create a scalloped appearance to the fabric.
Rows 8 and 10: Purl.
Row 9: K1, * sl 1, K2tog, psso, K2; rep from * to last 4 sts; sl 1, K2tog, psso, K1 – 33 sts.
Row 11: * Sl 1, K2tog, psso; rep from * across – 11 sts.
Row 12: Purl.
Do NOT bind off but cut yarn leaving a 20" end. Thread this end into the yarn needle and run it through the remaining 11 sts; draw up tightly; fasten securely at center.
Twist knitting at the split so that one edge overlaps the other, forming a double circle that resembles a flower. Secure into flower shape by sewing through the base in several places. Sew to front of bag.
