Scarf measures approximately 84" long. Belt measures approximately
67" long.
Knotted scarves and belts are fast and easy, the perfect gift and
an elegant accessory.
A knotted scarf can be thick, warm & cozy, or slim and slinky. By
varying the kinds of yarns you choose and the number of strands
you knot together, the look will change. There are endless possibilities
and variations.
Choose yarns by holding balls or strands together until you like
the combination, or use one of the color combinations given. Your
scarf can be made of six to eight different yarns, or six to eight
strands of one yarn if you like one color and one type of yarn.
Vary the thicknesses and the kinds of yarn to create an exciting
look.
DIRECTIONS:
(1) Begin by holding the tail ends from 2 or 3 of the balls in one
hand. Let the balls fall on the floor, chair or table so that yarns
will unwind easily from all of them at the same time.
(2) Make an overhand knot approximately 14" from the cut ends. Knot
again at approximately 12" to 15" intervals five more times. Put
your hand inside the knot each time to pull the previously knotted
yarns through to the right spot before tightening the new knot.
(3) This first knotted grouping will be knotted together with two
more, so at this point make sure BEFORE you cut the yarns that the
knotted group of yarns is about 18" LONGER than you want your finished
scarf to be. Include in your measurement about 14" beyond the last
knot.
It is very important that the yarns be longer than the finished
scarf at this point! The excess yarn will be used up when the knotted
bundles are knotted together. For a taller wearer, you may need
to add a seventh or eight knot. For someone petite, five knots may
be enough.
(4) Once you have determined that the length is correct, cut the
first knotted yarn bundle about 14" from the final knot. There should
be a “fringe” at both ends of the knotted yarns.
Repeat steps 1-4 with two or more groups of yarn bundles, knotting
at random intervals so that all the knots are not the same distance
apart. Varying where the knots are positioned is important. The
knots will look like large beads at intervals and will enhance the
finished project; they should not line up.
(5) Hold all bundles together and knot them together in three or
more places. You’re now ready to wear your scarf.
Options: Embellish the scarf by sewing beads or
charms to some of the knots or string beads on the ends of some
of the yarn tails.
