With CA, ch 3; join with a sl st
in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring; join with a sl st in
first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around; join –
16 sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, *
sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around; join –
24 sc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, [sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] 8 times;
join – 32 sc.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, [sc in 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc] 8 times;
join – 40 sc.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, [sc in 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc] 8 times;
join – 48 sc.

Bottom: With CA, ch 31.
Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and
in each ch across; turn – 30 sc.
Rows 2-10: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Fasten
off at end of Row 10.
Side I: With right side facing, attach CA
along short edge between 5th and 6th rows; ch 1, 5 sc to corner,
30 sc along long edge to next corner, 5 sc along
short edge to between 5th and 6th rows; turn – 40
sc. Work even in sc until 32 rows in all of Side I have
been completed. Fasten off.
Side II: With right side facing, attach CA
in same place as last sc of the first row of Side I; ch 1, 5 sc
to corner, 30 sc along long edge to next corner, 5 sc along short
edge, working last sc in same place as first sc of Side I; turn.
– 40 sc. Complete same as Side I.
FINISHING: Sew side seams. At top edge, sew first
5 sts of Side I to last 5 sts of Side II and vice versa to form
an inner pleat on each side. Weave in ends.
Trim: With right side facing, attach CB
in pleat seam; ch 1, sc in same place as joining, sc in each sc
across top edge, sc in next pleat seam, sc in each sc across next
top edge; join with a sl st in first sc; turn. Now rep Rnds 9 and
10 of Hat until a total of 13 rnds have been completed. Fasten off.
Weave in ends. Fold trim to outside.
Straps (Make 2): With CA, ch 91.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn –
90 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Fold strap
lengthwise; Ch 1, * insert hook in next sc AND
corresponding st of beg ch and draw yarn through both sts and the
lp on the hook; rep from * across. Fasten off. Sew each end of strap
on inside of bag at beg of trim and approximately 3” apart.
Rep on opposite side with second strap.
