Stitch marker; yarn needle

GAUGE: 14 sts = 4"; 18 rows = 4" in St st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS:
M1 = Make one st by picking up horizontal strand lying before next st (between the needles) and knitting into the back of this strand.
KW3 = Knit next st wrapping yarn 3 times around needle.

FRONT AND BACK (Make 2 pieces alike):
Beginning at neck edge, cast on 39 sts.
Border:Work 5 rows Garter st (Knit every row), noting first row is Wrong Side.

Row 1 (Right Side): K19, M1, place marker, K1 (center st), M1,
K19 – 41 sts.

Rows 2, 4 and 6: Purl.

Rows 3, 5 and 7: Knit to marker, M1, knit center st, M1, knit to end of row – 47 sts at end of Row 7.

Rows 8 and 10: Knit.

Rows 9 and 11: Rep Row 3 – 51 sts at end of Row 11.

Row 12: Knit.

Row 13: * KW3; rep from * across.

Row 14: Knit, dropping extra loops.

Rows 15 and 17: Rep Row 3 – 55 sts at end of Row 17.

Rows 16 and 18: Knit.

Row 19: Rep Row 3 – 57 sts.
Rep Rows 2 to 19 twice more, then rep Rows 2 to 11 once – 99 sts. Bind off knitways on the wrong side.

FINISHING: Sew shoulder/side seams.
