Bag measures approximately 10" high by 12" wide,
excluding strap.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for Reverse St st until approximately 10"
from beg, end by working a K row.
Place a marker at each end of last row to mark bottom of bag.
Work even for 10" more, end by working a K row. Place a marker
at each end of last row to mark beginning of flap shaping.
Shape Flap: Decrease 1 st at each end of next
row. K 1 row. Decrease 1 st each end of next row - 42 sts.
Work even until 6 1/2" from markers. Decrease 1 st each end
of next 4 rows - 34 sts. Bind off.
STRAP: Cast on 10 sts. Work in Garter st (K every
row) for approximately 58". Bind off.
LINING: Lay bag on top of lining material. Mark
lining with a pencil roughly 1" wider and longer than knitted
fabric, also marking fabric for bottom of bag and flap shaping.
Cut fabric along markings.
Turn 1/2" of fabric to wrong side along flap edges and top
edge of bag. Press hems.
With right sides together, sew sides of bag lining in 1/2"
seams, ensuring that when placed in purse the hemmed edges and seams
are facing the wrong side of the knitted fabric.
Cut lining fabric for strap. Hem all edges; sew to knitted strap.
FINISHING: With right sides together, fold bag
at bottom markers. Sew side seams. Turn bag right side out and stitch
lined strap over side seam for 2". Place lining into bag and
sew in place, easing fabric to match decreases at base of flap.
