Directions are for Size 2 years; changes for Sizes 3, 4,
and 6 years are in parentheses.
Knitting Needles: 5.5mm [US 9]. Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8].
Yarn needle; stitch holder; (optional) several yards of matching
smooth yarn for sewing seams.
GAUGE: 18 sts = 4"; 25 rows = 4" in
St st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain
the gauge.
To Fit Chest: 22 (23, 24, 25)". Finished Chest: 27 (29, 31, 33)".
BACK: Cast on 60 (65, 70, 75) sts. Knit 4 rows.
Now work in St st, beg K row (Right Side), until 11 (12, 13, 13)"
from beg, end P row. Bind off loosely. Mark center 28 (29, 30, 31)
sts for neck and outer 16 (18, 20, 22) sts for shoulders.
FRONT: Work same as back until 9 1/2 (10 1/2,
11 1/2, 11 1/2)" from beg, end P row.
Divide for Neck: K16 (18, 20, 22); turn and put
rem sts on a holder. Work even until piece measures same as back
to shoulder. Bind off loosely.
With right side facing, bind off center 28 (29, 30, 31) sts, K
to end. Work even in St st over 16 (18, 20, 22) sts until piece
measures same as back to shoulder. Bind off loosely.
SLEEVES: Cast on 32 (36, 40, 40) sts. Knit 4 rows.
Now work in St st, beg K row, shaping sides by inc 1 st each end
of 3rd row, then every 4th row until there are 56 (62, 68, 68) sts.
Work even until sleeve measures 8 1/4 (9, 10, 11)" from beg.
Bind off loosely.
FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams. Place center of
sleeve top at shoulder seams and sew in place. Sew side and sleeve
seams.
Neck Edging: With right side facing and crochet
hook, attach yarn at a shoulder seam; ch 1, work sc evenly around
neck edge, taking care to keep work flat; join with a sl st to first
sc. Fasten off.
