Circular Knitting Needle: 5.5mm [US 9] – 24".
Yarn needle; stitch marker.

GAUGE: 15 sts = 4"; 23 rnds = 4" in St st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

Length: 18".
Upper Circumference: 38 1/2".
Lower Circumference: 47".

Cast on 176 sts. Join for working in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts, and place marker to indicate the beg of the rnd. Slip marker every rnd.

Work in ribbing as follows:

All Rnds: * K2, P2; rep from * around.

Rep the last rnd for 1". Now work in St st (K every rnd) until piece measures 6" from beg.

Shape poncho as follows:

Dec Rnd 1: * K20, K2tog; rep from * around – 168 sts.

Work even in St st until piece measures 9" from beg.

Dec Rnd 2: * K19, K2tog; rep from * around – 160 sts.

Work even in St st until piece measures 12" from beg.

Dec Rnd 3: * K18, K2tog; rep from * around –152 sts.

Work even in St st until piece measures 15" from beg.

Dec Rnd 4: * K17, K2tog; rep from * around – 144 sts.

Work even until piece measures 18" from beg. Bind off.

Weave in ends.
